A supplement is a formal request to the insurance company asking them to revise the Statement of Loss upward to cover damage or scope that was missed, underestimated, or discovered during repairs.
When supplements happen
- Hidden damage uncovered after tear-off (e.g. rotten decking under a roof).
- Code-required upgrades the original estimate didn't account for (e.g. drip edge, ice-and-water shield).
- Items the adjuster simply missed during inspection.
What you need
- Photographic evidence of the missing damage.
- A written estimate from your contractor with line items.
- A clear, courteous email or letter explaining the supplement request.
Supplements are routine and expected. A good contractor knows how to write supplement requests on your behalf.
